Ripl is a new kind of social network, focused on sharing with everyone and capturing content together. We're building a platform specifically to answer the need for a modern news service, where everyone can report on the things they see, share useful information and decide what's important together. At it's heart lies a unique notification system; A Ripl begins when one of our users captures something they want to share with everyone. They upload video, pictures and text to explain what the event is and why people should care. We send this update to everyone nearby, spreading the news as quickly as possible to a local audience. Once locally verified, we let anyone on the scene add to the ripl, allowing us to quickly build the story of an event together, based on numerous eye witness accounts. Crowdsourcing journalism. We send updates out to users at ever increasing distances as activity around a story grows. Curating the news completely democratically.
